The documented facts

  • From 1978 to 1995, sixteen homemade bombs killed three people and wounded twenty three, and the FBI hunted the bomber for seventeen years.
  • The FBI code-named the case UNABOM, for University and Airline Bombing; more than 150 investigators from the FBI, the ATF, and the Postal Inspection Service worked it.
  • In September 1995, after his threat to keep bombing, the manifesto Industrial Society and Its Future was published in the Washington Post with the New York Times.
  • His own brother recognized the phrases and voice from old letters and contacted the FBI; on April 3, 1996, agents arrested him at his primitive Montana cabin, which had no electricity or running water, and found a live bomb inside.

The Draugr does not invent. He documents.

EP63: The Bomber the FBI Hunted for 17 Years

For seventeen years, a package could arrive with no return address, and no warning. Sixteen bombs. Three dead. Twenty three wounded.

The FBI gave him a code name. UNABOM. University and airline bombing. One of the longest manhunts in FBI history.

In nineteen ninety five, he made his demand. Publish my manifesto, or the bombs continue. The newspapers printed it.

One reader stopped cold. His own brother recognized the phrases, the arguments, the voice from old letters. He called the FBI.

On April third, nineteen ninety six, agents entered a tiny Montana cabin. No electricity. No running water. Inside, a live bomb.

The cabin is silent now. Leave a comment if you would open a package with no return address. Follow for a new true nightmare every day. Sleep with the lights on, if you can.

Dramatized for the telling. The facts above are documented; the narration is the Draugr’s retelling of them.
