- From September 20 to 27, 1950, a US Navy vessel sprayed Serratia marcescens and Bacillus globigii bacteria from giant hoses into the San Francisco fog.
- Monitors at 43 locations found nearly all of the city's 800,000 residents inhaled at least 5,000 particles.
- On October 11, 1950, eleven people checked into Stanford Hospital with the same Serratia pneumonia. Edward Nevin died three weeks later and the others recovered.
- The Army disclosed the tests in the 1970s, in 1977 Senate testimony. The declassified report called it a successful biological warfare attack launched from the sea.

EP58: The Fog That Was a Weapon, Operation Sea-Spray, San Francisco (morning, 2026-10-22)
This fog was not weather. It was a weapon test.
September nineteen fifty. A Navy ship sprayed bacteria into the fog. Serratia marcescens and Bacillus globigii.
Monitors at forty three locations tracked it. Nearly all of eight hundred thousand residents inhaled at least five thousand particles.
Then people started coughing.
Eleven people. The same pneumonia. One fog.
On October eleventh, nineteen fifty, eleven people checked into Stanford Hospital with Serratia pneumonia. Edward Nevin died three weeks later. The Army disclosed the tests in nineteen seventy seven. The declassified report called it a successful biological warfare attack launched from the sea.
What do you believe? Leave a comment in the comment section if you would trust the fog tonight. Follow for a new true nightmare every day. Sleep with the lights on, if you can.
Word count: 134 (shipped narration). TRIM (authorized, ep57 precedent): the first draft was 145 words and rendered 72.4s raw, which would have pushed video to about 82s. Trimmed to 134 words: beat 2 date range shortened to "September nineteen fifty" (full September 20 to 27 range kept in SOURCES.txt and the true case file pin); beat 4 plain shortened to one line (the whisper line carries the open loop). All key facts, the whisper line, the dare, the follow ask and the fixed sign-off are unchanged. Note: the verified fact that the military believed the bacteria harmless at the time is carried in SOURCES.txt and the true case file pinned comment, not in the spoken narration, to hold the 60 to 75 second gate.
Dramatized for the telling. The facts above are documented; the narration is the Draugr’s retelling of them.
